If I experience the same popping after removing the EXUP and installing the Graves mid-pipe then I will play with the appropriate settings to tune it out. But making changes here to correct engine braking is very easy as well. So the Unrestricted file is the same as the Stock file in this area -the values are all zeroes in both files. Basically, the Unrestricted file opens the throttle to 100% in a broader range than the Stock file. You can start with that and adjust according to your riding style and comfort level. So somebody at FT ECU spent time changing these values. They have different Throttle-by-Wire values. I compared the Unrestricted file with the Stock file. That's where the real value of the FT ECU is. If not then create your own tune for your unique bike, and change it when things change on your bike. If they work for your bike and you're happy then great. So I don't see how anybody can complain about that. So the canned maps have limited value anyway, but they are free after all. Absolute optimum power tuning for each bike would require a unique tune for that bike. The smallest manufacturing variations will create different demands. The pre-packaged Graves maps are designed to work with the Graves systems. You have access to everything, unlike with the PC5. It's far better than using a Powercommander. The product is as good as any Race Kit ECU and the software used to tune it. Chuck gave me a demonstration of the software and I bought the FT ECU right then and there at his shop. I knew about the Graves maps being locked down before I bought the FT ECU. Once my exhaust arrives I will reflash to graves file and report back.ĭon't get me wrong, I don't regret the purchase at all. I have not tried the Graves file yet, im sure as typical with Graves their products have excellent R&D, but thus far im not to happy with the FTECU file on its own, which on other motorcycles that I have had flashed with them, I was. I wanted to have a great start point and fine tune if needed from there. For someone like myself who can admit that im not all familiar with how to make changes on the software, and what increments to do, I wasn't really looking for project of dialing in the bike from scratch. Certainly didn't feel like any additional power was gained from the unrestricted map and even things that FTECU always does well like heavily reducing engine braking wasn't really changed and required the user to go in and make changes. However on the R1, while I was expecting the same, aside from changes of removing some emission based components from the bike really didn't feel any difference to my surprise. In my past experience Flash Tune has been pretty thorough with their base tunes and generally I have noticed large changes right out the gate. I did not modify any settings from the already made Unrestricted file. I started flashing the bike with only the FT ECU unrestricted file as I do not have my full exhaust yet and only have a slip on. Software install straight forward but software driver install was difficult for some reason. Removal of the fairing and ECU was very easy and done in less then 15 minutes.įT ECU kit, straight forward decent quality harness. The YEC flash package contains the same items required for programming as the official (genuine) YEC ecu and ecu tuning package.Purchased from the Graves the Flash Tune Type 18 Bench Flash Kit The entire package allows the end user to update the settings anytime, it is not dependant on updates from the internet. It is required for:ī) Supplying the driver for the interface/communication lead.ĭ) Allows the user to reprogram/alter perameters within the ecu. YEC is Yamahas own dedicated "in-house" race department.Īs for the software, this is also a cloned copy of YEC software. YEC is a very different beast compared to a standard ecu. Unlike any of the other flashes, a YEC flash does not retain any of the standard ecu 's all different. The reason you have to send your ecu is because HE is the only person that can reprogram the ecu from standard to YEC. This allows you to program the ecu from your computer. I bought a pre-flashed ecu and kept my original. Click to expand. The ebay guy can send you back your own ecu.just takes longer.Įxchange ecus can be delivered within a few days, depending on where it has to be sent.
